LCD monitors apparently display images a few frames later than their CRT counterparts. All LCDs are concerned by that, even the Dells and the Samsungs of this world and even if you paid thousands for them. The guys in France tested several screen including ultra fast 2ms and 3ms LC display. A sound engineer explains why that might be so.
I think the whole ghosting issue is actually a problem with cheapo and early generation of LCD mointors. Any halfdecent, modern LCD mointor I have came across has little or no ghosting.
i would really like to try a viewsonic vx922 just to see how much difference a 2ms response time can make as even though i love my lcd, i still back the crt camp when it comes to fps gaming. I am of the opinion that fps gaming on lcds introduces a tiny motion blur type effect which makes it slightly difficult to focus on the image (this is understandable because when quickly panning vision in a fps game there is no way for the crystals of the lcd to change state fast enough and hence there is a tiny blur)
in my opinion ghosting is still quite clearly visible to me at 16 ms ( black to white) / 6 ms ( grey to grey ) specs as per 2407wfp spec sheet, but not to the extent that it makes gaming unplayable. It is merely something that i do notice and is a minor frustration.
My Samsung 940B has virtually noghosting with a claimed response time of 8ms. You have literately move the screen back and forth rapidly in a FPS like UT2K4 to even notice the sight ghosting.
also when talking about ghosting you should understand that different scenes will show varying amounts of ghosting as the transition times between different colours will vary, for example a dark figure standing in front of a lighter coloured background will probably cause ghosting if it moves quickly. so it really depends on what you're looking at, an actual example of this would be in hl2 i notice a lot more ghosting than say world of warcraft. the colours used in wow tend to blend together a lot more whereas in hl2 you get very distinctly defined objects and because many of the surfaces are larger and of the same general colour it tends to show ghosting a lot more. (i know wow isnt strictly an fps game but trust me i pan around in it like it is)
锘?ms LCD enough for games
IMHO, CRTs are practically dead, unless you absolutely need color accuracy and flexiablity in resolution without compromsing image quality.
