You definitely need to be extra careful with dates and packages. Anything retaped where it has actually been opened is not safe. If it holding a box together that okay. If the dates are only a couple to 5 days out, I would still be leary of the content. Chips/crackers/cookies have known to be stale with an expiration date 5 days out. Bread is another questionable item. I can buy name brand bread for .89 when the costcutter brand is .98 at Kroger! Doesn seem to be a lot, but the name brand bread sure stays fresh a lot longer and tastes better, too!Dented cans are the norm here, but as long as cans are only dented and not BULGING, they are fine! Cereal is anywhere from $1.29 $2.09 here less than 1/2 of the chain store cost. Yes, their prices have gone up just like everywhere else. Smart shoppers should know what normal pricing is on the items they buy regularly, and should be able to tell a bargain when they see it. One of the best things about shopping here is they have brands from all over the country that aren usually available locally. Also, I can splurge and get gourmet items I would normally not be able to afford for a bargain price. I got some awesome Calamata olives here the other day for $1.29 $3 or $4 at a chain store. These will be nice to have around the holidays for entertaining..
