This week the company is operating a fourday week, and there are again unconfirmed reports that next week it will go down to a threeday week. It operated a threeday week when it returned after its Christmas break.
In April 2008 The Corkman did get to speak to Jerry Buckley, General Manager at Munster Joinery. At that time rumours were circulating and gaining speed that the company was experiencing a severe dip in orders, due to the lull in the construction industry.
Donal Ring also has a number of interests outside Munster Joinery and is highly involved in the hotel trade in nearby Killarney with his wife, Noreen O'Donoghue.
Munster Joinery was founded 35 years ago by the hardworking Ring brothers, Donal and Patrick, and what started out as a small joinery business in a small shed next to the family home at Lacca Cross was soon replaced and today stands a mammoth company. The nonunionised company has workers not only from its own catchment area but also from as far away as west Limerick.
In the interview nine months ago, he rejected rumours that the company had experienced a reduction in orders.
Mr Buckley denied the claims and when asked if the company was going to reduce its fiveday week to four at that stage, he said: "That's rubbish. We're not going down to a four day week, or any other day of the week," he said.
Management at Munster Joinery, a window and door company at Ballydesmond, remained tightlipped when contacted by The Corkman on the unconfirmed job losses.
The source claimed that workers were told of their fate five minutes before their working day was over. "Wth each week the staff are wondering what is coming down the line. It's a very nervous time," said the source.
"Workers could see this day coming for some time as orders are way down and workers are either on a three or four day week, depending on work. It's a very nervous time not only for workers who have been with the company since the boom times of construction but for workers who have been here for ten, 15 and even 20 years.
"We are busy enough and will try to stay busy. Again, we have no intention of going down to a fourday week or anything less. We're hearing lots of rumours ourselves and it's all unfounded," said Mr Buckley.
"The start of 2009 isn't good and from the way the economy is going neither will the next few years," said the source.
锘?0 jobs to go at Munster Joinery
" Workers who aren't spring chickens know that this is the end of the line, as the jobs just aren't out there.
