As you can see the Thaumatrope relies on speed of movement, that comes from rotating a paper disc, to make two separate images appear as one. You could have a face with a smile on one side and a scowl on the other or a dragon on one side with fire on the other your choices are endless. The most important thing is to ensure the two images line up perfectly before you stick anything down. If you decide you want fire to appear from the mouth of your dragon, you must ensure you measure the position of the two images properly otherwise the effect of the illusion will be lost it not quite the same if the fire comes out of the dragon eye, is it?
The first thing you need to do is think of an idea. Once you have done that, play around with some rough sketches in your work book. When you are happy with the way the two images are going to look you are ready toconstructthe Thaumatrope using card, coloured pens, chopsticks and glues. Remember to use colour or fine liner pen to make you image stand out.
