MONITORS> 30s are huge, did you look at (26inch?) the 120hz models with the glasses as an alternative?
RAID>a raid card will likely help speed up your system, Raid0 on your ssd drives with the card, and raid0 on the 7200 drives using your motherboard sata connectors.
VID> the FTW is awesome (I have it), although if going with multiple cards, i think the single gpu 280 is a better choice (faster) than the dual gpu 285. check toms, buy i'm 99% sure that the reviews show that having two 280 single gpu cards are faster in most games than two 285s (four gpus).
RAM> good ram, but the reviews of the included fan are terrible. buy the version w/o the fan. Also, 12gb won't likely give you any improvement over 6gb. you wont max out 6gb no matter what you do.
I'd get a RAID controller for the drives, the graphics set is quite nice, you might even consider a dual CPU board with one or two GTX295s, but if it's mainly for gaming you're right on track.
Would probably cost you $15002000 AUD without a monitor if I had to guess, and should max out basically any game you can throw at it. (Of course, other people will have different parts preferences, this is just an example). It would also leave you $3000 to spend on other stuff. Think of how many pizzas you could order with $3000. powerful stuff.
Intel i7 920 D0; OC to 3.43.8 GHz
锘?00 AUD No Joke Gaming Monster
CASE/Cooler> Take a peek at the RCS100 case. It offers refrigeration for the cpu at $10,000, you need to have something exotic. If not refrigeration, the CoolIT Boreas 12 is the highest rated nonpainfullycustom cooling solution. you can order it for one cpu, two cpus, one gpu, two gpus, etc. the antec twelve hundred is a terrific case, very tall though. I have five HDs in raid0 and two graphics cards in my antec nine hundred, and it still isnt full. I replaced all the antec stock fans with nice quiet variable speed ones fans, fan silencers, psu silencers, noise reduction padding inside the case, i dont see any of that listed.
PSU> eep. the psu you selected is ultra expensive, you might consider the far better rated brand: 'pc power and cooling' you might consider looking at one of the few highefficiency 90PLUS rated psus.
I think you could probably get 95% of the performance for about 30% of the money; some of the comments thus far have been good ones. For example, something like this:
If you notice, some of the stuff he's spending money on won't be outdated so quickly, such as the monitors. Some people are willing to spend quite a bit of money, I find it frustrating for him that so many people are offering financial advice, which he didn't ask for, instead of hardware advice, which he did.
What these ppl are saying in questionable terms is basically this: You buy a crazy outspecced PC now and u'll find that it will be outdated in a year or two. (or next yr when DX11, windows 7 and a new generation of processors are out). technology changes quite rapidly, and ur PC for $10,000 wont be able to run games 2 years from now on max settings while using the newest technologies. On the other hand if u were to spend AUD 5000 on a good PC now u will be able to run pretty much any program/game at awesome resolutions. then in 2 years get another comp for around teh same price (minus the monitor, if u make sure u get a realy good monitor now. or go for the Samsun + NVidia 3D Vision bundle and hold on to it). This way u'd not only have two computers (one very good one, and one that is cutting edge, but u'd actually be better off. in 2 yrs u'd still have a cutting edge computer. but if u shell out 10k on a PC now, in 2 years ur comp will be great, but it won't be cutting edge.
