Cute, interactive puppies are the stars of Touch Pets: Dogs, being developed by iPhone/iTouch game maker ngmoco. You don't just pet and train your sim puppy. Fido can network.
The reasoning behind LiveFire arose because, Young says, many core gamers use an iPhone or iTouch as their portable gaming device and first person shooters are an underserved but popular game category on the device. "It felt like there was a natural match there," he says.
Two other new iPhone games being developed by ngmoco are Star Defense, a scifi twist on the Tower Defense genre, and LiveFire, a firstperson multiplaying shooter game.
On the way to your iPhone: an application that makes you go "Aww."
"It can go on play dates with other dogs. It can even go on missions," says ngmoco CEO Neil Young. "You can train it to have a career as a rescue dog, a police dog, a scientist, a politician or a superstar. You go on these missions that are sort of like social RPGs."
锘緼 fetching game for your iPhone
Star Defense features richlycolored worlds that need protection from waves of enemies. This genre of games is actually "very simple to play but have a lot of complexity when you see the map, the towers, the upgrades for the tower and the enemy types," Young says. "But we also wanted to do something that could look beautiful."
"It's a wonderful device for games," he says. "It's got great controls. It's not just touch, it's multitouch. It's got accelerometers. It's got your contacts in there for personalization and messaging. You've got access to your media, your music. And importantly, it's always on, it's always with you, it's always connected to the network. The type of games you can build in that environment are just incredible and you can get them in this frictionless way from the app store."
Boasting fluidmoving graphics reminiscent of Portal, the game uses the entirety of the device screen without a user interface for controls. "You don't have to take up any screen real estate for the control surface," Young says. "If your thumb starts obscuring something you just move it and put it somewhere else."
